The sun is warm, and the air is cool.

        Spotting whales in Kodiak
In early August the family took a trip to Kodiak on the ferry Tustemena. We spotted several pods of whales. It's like another world.

A map of a portion of Kachemak Bay State Park

The next weekend we hiked Kachemak Bay State Park from the Glacier Spit Trailhead to Grewink Glacier Lake and then left by way of the Saddle Trail.  To get there and back we rode on Mako's Water Taxi.

A view from across the bay taken near sunset.

Approaching Grewink Glacier Lake

Grewink Glacier Lake in August

Grewink Glacier Lake is incredibly wild. We picked up wind-blown ice from the shore and brought it back home. It makes great ice for drinks. Mmmm.
Sun rays dancing cold
Ice water laughs at our toes
Tasting ancient snow
