A night at the Homestead Restaurant
Jamie Sutton sings "You Go - And I'm Gonna Stay" (And I'll catcha back at Kachemak Bay)

Commentary by the singer/songwriter

I wrote the lyrics for a gathering of talented people to which I was
introduced by Marty Zeller. I had been thinking about a song about "the end
of the road" but it wasn't until the "hook" of "Catch ya' back at
Kachemak-Bay" came into my mind that I thought I had anything to really work
with. The tune is a take off on an old Horry Belafonte classic and that
lead to the theme set in the first verse about the Caribbean.

I have often described Homer to friends as having a view that is "peak,
glacier, peak, glacier, etc. The rest of the ideas in the song are just the
funny things that, I should think, come to mind for many.

I had planned to teach the chorus to the "audience" in the show with Marty,
but folks seemed to naturally respond with a reply to "You Go", so why not
go with it? And the last line is a natural to sing together. I would be
delighted to have the folks of Homer learn it and sing it.

...

All the best.

Alaska's Flag
Written by Marie Drake
Composed by Elinor Dusenbury

Eight stars of gold on a field of blue -
Alaska's flag. May it mean to you
The blue of the sea, the evening sky,
The mountain lakes, and the flow'rs nearby;
The gold of the early sourdough's dreams,
The precious gold of the hills and streams;
The brilliant stars in the northern sky,
The "Bear" - the "Dipper" - and, shining high,
The great North Star with its steady light,
Over land and sea a beacon bright.
Alaska's flag - to Alaskans dear,
The simple flag of a last frontier.

The Flag Of Alaska
 Writing by Marie Drake
 Composed by Elinor Dusenbury
(translated into German and back again)

Eight hold the first role of gold on a field of blue -
The flag of Alaska. Can it mean with you
The blue of the sea, sky of evening,
Lakes of mountain, and the flow' rs near;
The gold of the first of the dreams leaven,
The invaluable gold of the hills and the jets;
The brilliance holds the first role in the Scandinavian sky,
The “bear” - “Dipper” - and, shining high,
The far North Hold the first role with its regular light,
Finished ground and sea a luminous beacon.
The flag of Alaska - in expensive Alaskans,
The simple flag of a last border.
